Meet The Founder of Birthing Dads

Steven Kennedy

In 2017, Steven Kennedy underwent a transformative journey of post-traumatic growth following a life-threatening birth of his son. He established a registered charity and the social enterprise Birthing Dads to help other fathers avoid the same mistakes he made.

Both organisations aim to revolutionise how men approach the birth of their first child by providing targeted resources and information.

Steven envisions a society where the sharing of birth wisdom among men is normalised, contributing to our collective narrative.

His ultimate goal is to empower the next generation of fathers, encouraging positive contributions during pregnancy, childbirth, and the crucial first year of their baby's life.

Amanda Liddell

Amanda is a registered midwife, the lead educator for Disability Maternity Care and a mother to three teenagers. She has been a midwife and educator for 13 years, working in a large tertiary hospital in Sydney. Before finding her way into midwifery, she had a long and specialized career in the Police Force, working in child protection, domestic violence and sexual assault.

Amanda has amassed diverse skills and is able to employ creative strategies to effect change by combining her two passions, midwifery and teaching, whilst protecting and prioritizing parent advocacy and empowerment. These, she feels, are key to a successful parenting journey. Amanda encourages each parent to forge their own path to success and works alongside them as they do so. She supports rapport based relating and is endlessly inspired by the strength of transformative human connection.
